Welland Schedule Adjustments and Terminal Platform Changes
Daytime Schedule Changes Coming to Four Welland Routes Starting Sept. 8
Starting Tuesday, Sept. 8, Niagara Transit is making daytime schedule adjustments to four Welland local routes to improve service reliability and better stagger bus arrivals at the Welland Terminal.
The changes affect Routes 501, 502, 505 and 509 only.
While departure times during the day will change, customers can expect the same level of service they receive today.
What's Changing?
Routes 503, 504, 506 and 508
These routes will continue operating on their current schedule, departing the Welland Terminal at :00 and :30 past the hour from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays.
Beginning at 6:00 p.m., these routes continue to their regular evening schedules, departing once per hour at :00.
Routes 501, 502, 505 and 509
These routes will shift to new daytime departure times, leaving the Welland Terminal at :15 and :45 past the hour from 6:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. on weekdays.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m., these routes return to their regular evening schedules, departing once per hour at :30.
Why Are These Changes Being Made?
The new schedule is designed to better distribute bus arrivals and departures at the Welland Terminal, helping customers make more successful connections while improving service to key destinations such as Seaway Mall and Niagara College.
The update will also create a more consistent pattern between routes, making the system easier to navigate.
Current Welland System
Right now every bus arrives at the Welland Terminal at once. If your bus runs a few minutes late, you might miss your connection.
Starting Sept. 8
15-minute offset buses leaving the terminal during weekdays helps to spread arrivals out, so there's more room to make your transfer.
The change also means better service at two of Welland's busiest stops. Niagara College and the Seaway Mall will now see a bus every 15 minutes heading to the terminal.
What Is Staying the Same?
- Service frequency is not changing.
- Regional routes are not changing.
- Routes 503, 504, 506 and 508 daytime schedules remain the same.
- Evening service continues on its regular schedule after 6 p.m.
If you ride Routes 501, 502, 505 or 509, be sure to check your updated schedule before travelling.
Welland Terminal Platform Changes
Welland Terminal Introduces Lettered Platforms
Niagara Transit has introduced lettered platform markers at the Welland Bus Terminal. Each boarding spot is now identified by a letter from A to N.
This system matches the platform layout already in use in St. Catharines and will be adopted at future terminals. Standardizing platform identification helps to align consistency across the region for easier navigation.
Platform Assignments
- Platforms A and B: Niagara Transit Plus.
- Platforms C through J: local Welland routes.
- Platform K: Route 34 - Niagara College Campus Link.
- Platform L: New platform on East Main Street for Route 60 service to Niagara College Welland Campus.
- Platforms M and N: Shared by routes 25, 65, and 75. Buses on these routes will use the first available platform along the boulevard.
Platform Changes for Routes 501, 504, 505 and 508
- Route 501 now departs from Platform D
- Route 504 now departs from Platform H
- Route 505 now departs from Platform F
- Route 508 now departs from Platform C
These changes were made based on bus arrival and departure patterns. The new assignments improve traffic flow within the terminal. Reduces congestion and will help keep buses departure on time.
